Launched in 1997, the Pharmapack Awards celebrate the latest innovations from packaging companies within the drugs, medical devices, health products and veterinary drugs sectors.
These prestigious awards take place annually alongside the Pharmapack Europe exhibition and conference and recognise pioneering packaging innovations that have significantly contributed to improving the following elements:
Both the awards as well as the scientific sessions at Pharmapack are always very stimulating and inspiring. This 2020 edition of Pharmapack was a great success for us as we have connected with promising new contacts for new projects.
CREON® comprises of enteric-coated Pancreatin mini-microspheres containing pancrelipase indicated for patients with pancreatitis and exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. Current doses are 10,000, 25,000 and 40,000 units/capsule. For paediatric and geriatric patient dosing the capsules are opened and granules mixed with food depending on the patient’s weight and clinical symptoms.
Hence the need for an innovative solution to dispense the required amount of mini microspheres individualized to each patient’s requirement.
To address this unmet need, Abbott introduced the world’s first Granule Dosing Concept G’DoCon® for dispensing of Pancreatin Mini-microspheres.
Creon® SD is a smart dosing device that simplifies the patient’s prescription requirement with a “push” to dispense the required dose, obviating the need to carry capsules of multiple strengths.
Apart from delivering a metered dose, G’DoCon® improves dosing flexibility in an easy-to-use patient-friendly and travel-friendly pack and reduces product exposure to the environment therefore improving overall compliance and adherence.
The New Respimat® re-usable - maintaining quality & performance – reduced waste & PCF – improved & easy handling.
Boehringer Ingelheim developed a new re-usable Respimat®, which can be used with up to six cartridges, fully maintaining quality and spray performance. Additionally, handling and dose indicator were optimized based on patient feedback. If one inhaler is used with multiple cartridges, the plastic waste through the end user is reduced up to 73 %, and the PCF (CO2-Emission whole lifecycle) up to 71 %. For 2025 up to 776.27 t plastic waste and up to 14,300 t CO2 will be saved.
Credence MedSystems introduces the Credence Connect™ Auto-Sensing Injection System, which incorporates
automatic real-time monitoring of critical injection data into a reusable ergonomic finger grip. The Connect links to the Credence App on a smart phone and provides a comfortable grip that enhances the usability of any syringe
while measuring and transmitting injection progress in real time. The user receives reminders and instructions on the app and can visualize the injection as it occurs, watching a meter increment as the medication is delivered. The user then receives feedback on whether the injection was completed successfully.
Push Tab® is an alternative opening for strip packaging. With Push Tab® loop Huhtamaki is offering a recyclable tablet packaging solution. The material is completely without PVC and makes it easy to remove tablets simply by applying pressure. The barrier properties are not affected by the push through feature of the film and guarantee the highest levels of product safety.
The risk of migration is also very low, as an extrusion-laminated and coated laminate that doesn’t contain any solvents is used. Different versions and forms ensure adequate market differentiation and are sustainable alternatives to blister or cold-form applications.
Among the dosage forms of medications, liquids are only a small sector compared to tablets or capsules.
But there are some benefits like the faster effect after taking or the possibility of very simple individual dosing. Besides, liquids are much easier to swallow. But without a good packaging, taking liquids can be frustrating.
Everybody knows it, you need liquid medication like cough syrup or dietary supplement and there’s no way to pour it out without spilling. PACKSYS thought about these problems and created the new pourer called “Lotus”, which combines several benefits in one closure: one-piece system, tamper-evident, flip-top closure and one hand operation.
